Oliver Steele, said to have come to Buffalo in 1827 with 12 cents in his pocket, produced almanacs from 1832 to 1844. He and his partner, Charles Faxon, ran a diversified business at 214 Main Street. Publishers, printers, and binders, they also sold books, stationery, slates, pencils, quill pens, sealing wax, and blank forms used by attorneys and justices of the courts. |
