Happy Hour History: An Evening with author Michael Horowitz

05/14/2025 @ 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Photographer Michael L. Horowitz will share his impressive images of the region’s industrial past, taking us inside sites such as Buffalo’s towering grain elevators, the Colonel Ward Pumping Station, Buffalo Central Terminal, and Bethlehem Steel in Lackawanna.

Known for documenting the rapidly disappearing places throughout the Northeast, his new book Cathedrals of Industry features many local remnants of American industry, including several no longer standing or since converted for a new purpose.  See the Buffalo State Asylum for the Insane before it was renovated, explore the water pumping station a mile out on Lake Erie, and the last player piano roll factory. Horowitz photographs these places with the eye not only of a photographer but of someone who has taken the time to understand their inner workings.

Join Michael at the museum for a visual presentation that will appeal to Buffalonians with a variety of interests, including history, architecture, engineering, and urban exploration.

Books will be available to purchase in the Museum’s Gift Shop

Tickets are $12 (free for Members)
