Happy Hour History: Mark Twain in Buffalo
09/20 @ 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
In August 1869, 33-year-old journalist Samuel L. Clemens moved to Buffalo hoping to establish himself as a successful newspaper editor. Writer and professor Tom Reigstad joins us to provide fresh insights into Twain’s domestic, social, and professional experiences in Buffalo. The talk will include anecdotes about Twain’s stay in Buffalo as a newspaperman, as a budding author of books, as a community celebrity, and his challenges as a new husband and father. It is as much a story of Twain’s rise as a literary figure as it is about Buffalo’s own cultural and economic boom
