A former enslaved person turned orator, William Wells Brown may not be as recognizable as abolitionist figures like Frederick Douglass, but in the 1840s, he was one of the major players of the anti-slavery movement. Brown attained unimaginable fame and became the first African- American to be published as both a novelist and playwright. Join Patrick F.
